Making the Most of Cloud Computing: Managed Cloud Service Providers

If you are a small business, a startup, or even an SME, chances are that you have given cloud computing some thought. If you are one of those businesses that believe in staying ahead of the game, you might already be hosting on cloud instead of using a physical datacenter.

Businesses around the world are now realizing the importance of cloud computing and the ease and agility it provides to any growing business. The question however lies, what form of cloud will suit your business. You have public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid clouds (that’s a combination of the former two) and you have managed cloud service providers to help manage the complex cloud structure and help you with matters of scalability, performance, compliance and more.

Choosing between public and private cloud – Take the call

While most businesses feel comfortable using  public cloud, businesses operating in the domains of finance and healthcare often prefer private cloud given the sensitive data that they handle. It sometimes make sense for them to use hybrid cloud computing services. This allows them to use both private and public clouds based on their requirements. However, shifting workloads between two clouds and hosting applications on one while you store sensitive data on the other is not an easy task. This is where, you can use assistance from managed cloud service provider, as they are adept in handling migration, hosting, and providing support services which are a must for any company hosting on a third-party cloud.

For businesses who are already making it big in the market and would continue to maintain their position while beating competition, cloud computing provides a great way of focusing on software rather than hardware, and bringing in the benefits of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS that furthers adds agility and speed to their processes. For smaller businesses, it makes a lot of sense to start off with cloud in the first place, as they are looking at huge growth, scalability, economies of scale, and reducing their Capex and go for a “Pay-as-you-Use” model that cloud computing totally supports.

Managed cloud service providers

Why you should go for Managed Cloud Service Providers?

Managed cloud service providers are yet another answer as to how to use cloud optimally. They help you manage:

  • cloud security
  • storage
  • computing
  • application stacks
  • network operations
  • vendors and more.

In return, you pay a monthly fee to access their storage and support services. Some managed cloud service providers even have their own in-house team who can help build products and apps that are customized for your business. You pay for the app development and hosting on cloud, that basically turns out to be one time Capex for app development and monthly fee for hosting services.

G7 CR Technologies offers a unique service known as “Technology Funding” whereby, they invest their own knowhow and expertise into developing a unique and customized app for your requirement. The app development itself, is at zero cost, which means Zero Capex. All you need to pay is a minimal fee for hosting the app on cloud. G7 CR Technologies is focusing on small and medium enterprises and startups to help enable and empower them on their growth path.

In short, cloud service providers help you ensure you are making the most of your cloud investment by providing you with 4 most important cloud computing factors: Performance, Scalability, Security, and Compliance.

  • Frustrated with maintaining your datacenter?

7 Points to Consider While Choosing the Best Cloud Service Provider for your Business

With multiple public cloud services providers competing in the space, choosing the best cloud service provider for your business is indeed a tough call.

Before moving on to the criteria on the basis of which the CSPs should be chosen, let us look at the key cloud service providers, in today’s market: they are Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Although there are many other players in the market, as well, but these three are currently ruling the CSP market.

Choosing the best cloud service provider for your business

Cost

Cost plays an important role when deciding migration as this is more of a revenue expenditure than a capital one.  There is no fixed method of comparing prices of different cloud service providers but, the total costing based on the usage can be compared. MS Azure, AWS, and GCP, provide their costing structure based on usage. So, once you get an idea of your usage pattern, then it will easier for you to work out the approximate amount for each CSP you are evaluating.

Architecture

While selecting a CSP, the architecture should be known. The incorporation of the architecture into the system is important. Each organization has a certain architecture that it works on. When they migrate from in-house data-centres to a public cloud system, it is important to match the architecture as closely possible to ensure the data is not disturbed and the systems keep working smoothly post migration. This is one of the reasons which is fuelling the rapid growth of MS Azure in the cloud computing scenario. As most business are used to using MS applications throughout their organizations and process levels, it makes sense to them to migrate to MS Azure and make it a through-and-through Microsoft-supported technology system.

Security

Securing the applications and data hosted on the public cloud network is important. Take a detailed note of the security features of the cloud service provider. Be sure Make sure there is a back-up to protect the data should there be any emergency.

Security being the top concern,  it is critical to evaluate the security features of the CSP.

Compliance

Try to choose a CSP who meets both the industry compliance standards and the compliance standards of your business, as well. Check for compliance standards such as the PCI, SOC2, HIPAA, DSS or whichever other compliance standard is followed by your organization, to meet the regulation standards of the industry you are operating in. Make it a point to understand the compliance standards that are required when the applications and data are hosted on a public cloud.

Support

This parameter needs to be evaluated carefully. The support provided by your Cloud Service Provider is important. Some premium CSP partners like Azure partners ensure premier cloud service and support to all clients. Having premier support access always helps as it ensures quick troubleshooting and also 360 degree support access through calls, emails, and chat support.

Manageability

Determining what the CSP expects to manage and what will be the level of the manageability from their end is important. Different providers support different tools to work with different other services. It is important to state your requirement to the tee and also have the Cloud Service Provider assess if they can extend the kind of support you are looking for.

Service Levels

This factor is critical when the business have strict requirements like response, availability-time, support services, capacity and scalability. Ensure going through and signing a Service Level Agreement(SLA) with your cloud service provider to ensure timely and professional assistance from them, as and when needed.

Now that you have a quick checklist of the points to consider while choosing a CSP for your business, you are good to go. Microsoft Azure-cloud computing

Microsoft Azure is Growing Twice as Fast as AWS

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is leading the cloud infrastructure market, but Microsoft’s Azure is growing twice as fast. The longtime users of Microsoft’s desktop software and Windows OS are continuing with the company they have known for decades, hence Azure.

Amazon pioneered the cloud system in 2006, enabling the developers to build web pages, applications and run the workloads by renting the storage capacity instead of buying hardware of their own. In the past few decades, to fulfill the requirements of large companies, AWS has developed a global sales force and improvised the service agreements.

In third quarter, AWS grew 42 percent. According to Brian Olsavsky, CFO, Amazon, the growth in the usage is more than the growth in the revenue, and the company is pleased to have the new users.

MS Azure had an increase of 90 percent in its revenue and exceeded the growth of AWS for minimum eight quarters.

The added features, lower price, and expanded data center around the world have helped Microsoft Azure in bagging high-profile clients.

Sapient Consulting, part of the advertising giant Publicis, Bentley Systems, a software developing company and Parexel, a biopharmaceutical service provider, all preferred Azure to AWS.

Even though Publicis Groupe clarified that the company hasn’t chosen any particular cloud provider, but, around two and a half years back, Arun Karur, Vice President, Sapient Consulting, said that the executives chose to use Microsoft Azure and had plans to move their legacy solutions on AWS to Azure.

Like any other big company, Publicis too has its data centers and they are moving only a part of their workloads to cloud. And according to Karur, Microsoft can back both. Karur also said that since Publicis’ Sapient works with energy and financial services companies. If the cloud provider were Google or Amazon, a bank might worry about how their customer data will be used. However, when it comes to Microsoft, security concerns are not as much, since organizations are used to working on Microsoft-based platforms.

Cloud storage Microsoft Azure

Earlier in 2017, FleetBoard, a subsidiary of Daimler AG, specialized in making telematics devices for commercial vehicles, announced that they will be using Azure. Before opting for Microsoft Azure, FleetBoard tried AWS and other service providers too, added Jens Kamlowski, lead architect, Nxtload, the first product of FleetBoard to operate on Azure.

Kamlowski also said that the decision of moving to Azure was quick and decisive. Since, FleetBoard had a long association with Microsoft, they trusted the data scalability and security provided by Microsoft.

Rob Whitesell, Chief Platform Officer of Bentley systems, told that Bentley systems being a producer of software for engineers and architects, they have always seen Microsoft as their partner since decades. Earlier the company was using AWS, but now that Microsoft is clear about its commitments toward cloud, Bentley have opted Azure as their primary cloud provider.

According to Rob Whitesell, the developers of Bentley were familiar with Microsoft. The simplicity involved in developing and running applications in different machines simultaneously have made Azure their favorite.

Technology Funding – Business Apps for SMEs

Custom business apps are the need of the hour. We are currently dwelling in a world that is seeing a surge in the number of startups and SMEs. More and more businesses are coming up with innovative ideas and solutions to address service gaps that we find around us. These SMEs have visions and opportunities but often they don’t have the right technology in hand to make most of these opportunities.

Each business has a different technology requirement based on its service offering. When businesses use customized technology to fit their business need, they develop a unique competitive advantage. This helps them beat competition and boost growth, exponentially.

However, the cost of developing custom solutions for business entails high cost and heavy investment. You could want a custom app to track your orders or payments, or you might benefit a lot from a customized CRM solution, but the cost of building these custom apps is too high. G7 CR Technologies fills in this gap between technology requirements and high costs of building it through its Technology Funding initiative.

Custom Business Apps for SMEs

Through this program, G7 CR invests its resources into building custom apps for small businesses and SMEs, which fit their business requirement to a T. SMEs and small businesses benefit from this program as they do not have to invest in building custom business apps for their venture but at the same time they have exclusive access to the apps that G7 CR builds for them. All custom apps are developed and hosted on Microsoft Azure (Cloud Computing Platform). Businesses only have to pay a minimal sum for hosting.

You have a requirement to automate your business in the way that suits it the best. Don’t bend your requirements according to the software, let the software bend according to your requirements.

Complete security and scalability

Every growing business has a need to scale, as and when they grow. While mature and established business have their own in-house solutions and data centers that they have built on for years, small business do not have access or resources to wield the same kind of technological power. However, this should not stop SMEs and small businesses from growing into their full potential. By hosting their solutions and software on Cloud from the very beginning, they can create an environment of security and scalability in their business processes.

With our technology funding program our main focus is to empower small businesses to grow and expand. An Easy Guide to MS Office 365 – Facilitating Collaboration

Collaboration is important when it comes to daily lives and businesses. People need to share data, information, lists, reports and presentations. Now consider, a second and more dynamic variable added to it, flexibility.

We do understand that digital world is dynamic and so are we. Business-on-the-go has become a thing. With a rise in employees working from remote locations and the need to share work and update information simultaneously, dynamic collaboration has become more important than ever before.

Now, let’s add a third variable, scalability. As the business grows so does information, the content, and the employee base it initially started off with. How does a business manage all this growth and expansion at the more intangible technological level?

Thankfully, Cloud computing has helped answers these queries and provided solutions on which software architects are still building upon. Cloud has provided the solid base on which the future of technology can be built.

By outsourcing their technological and storage requirements to cloud, businesses can rid their valuable space and time by focusing on their core competencies. They no longer have to worry about hardware. They do not have to think about in-house servers and adding one more to the existing ones, every time there is an expansion.

What is Shadow IT? | G7 CR Technologies | Blog Post

What is Shadow IT & How to Protect Your Business From It?

Technology makes collaboration easy. When it comes to workplace, collaboration is required more than ever. We need to be on the same page with our colleagues, employees, clients, and vendors. The many collaboration apps in the marketplace makes this happen very easily. You have real-time notifications and documents on the cloud to skim through when you need them. But where does Shadow IT come in, in this scenario?

Have you ever wondered if all the office apps that you are using on your device are authorised and have your organisation’s approval? Many of the apps you might be using might have all the necessary features you might need for collaborating. However, They might not have the level of security enabled to ensure that the data they are holding is completely protected.

For example, you have a confidential file in your work email that you need to review over the weekend. So, you send the file over email to your personal email and download the document using an open software on your phone. This software you had downloaded from the App Store. You found it feature-rich and it also had lots of great reviews. There is absolutely no way you can tell if the app is unsafe or that your confidential document can be accessed by a third-party.

Is Shadow IT dangerous?

The moniker itself might seem intimidating given the presence of the word Shadow. Although, the term mostly refers to software which are not organisation authorised, they might well be dangerous as well. Freeware as such does not comply with the number of security protocols that an organisation specific software might comply with. This compliance issue in itself can create major security breaches impacting data security of the employee and of the organisation as well.

Shadow IT Human VersionHow does Shadow IT make its entry?

Whenever an employee wants to access official documents for their perusal on their personal devices, using third party software which is not authorised by the organisation, Shadow IT makes its quite entry. It could be something as simple as storing your office documents in your personal Dropbox account. That too, is considered Shadow. If by any chance if your device or data happened to be compromised, that would lead the organisation’s confidential data to be out in the open, too.

How can you protect your organisation from Shadow IT?

The concept of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) gave rise to Shadow IT. As employees started using their own devices for work (laptops, phones, and tabs) along with freeware to assist with their collaboration needs, Shadow IT became more prominent.

By handing your employees user friendly, organisation friendly, and secure, software and applications, you can ensure that Shadow IT is kept at bay. Software that is well-encrypted and follow the security protocols of your company ensuring every bit of data is safety transmitted and stored is the way to go. Also, allowing employees to use this software on multiple devices further ensures that they never need to download any third-party software whatsoever.

Where can you find such robust yet seamless collaboration software?

Microsoft’s Office 365 offers your organisation and employees with great collaboration tools and apps that make communication and sharing seamless and thorough. Access files and share them, anytime, anywhere. Apps such as Yammer, SharePoint, One Drive and Skype for Business will help your employees connect and access files and co-create, from remote locations.

When you give your employees what they require, proactively, they will never need to download third-party vendor software which might pose a risk to your organisation’s data security.

Data is the real asset of every company today. Protect it well from the harmful effects of Shadow IT by implementing an organisation-wide collaboration tool, today.

Incorporate Office 365 into your day-to-day business function. Give your employees the power to collaborate and create without a hitch, even from remote locations. Contact us today to learn more about our Office 365 offerings.
